Amsterdam Review
Amsterdam Review
Amsterdam, the capital city of the Netherlands, is probably the only country with more than 65% of its surface below the sea level. The central railway station is right on the sea and the complete city of Amsterdam has more than 1000 bridges which is more than Venice which has only 700 bridges. The complete city can be visited either through boat or by road. But you can get a bicycle for rent and go on it.
Now, when you have both facilities are there, why bicycle? Because you find so many people doing it and the whole country has more than 10,000 kilo meters of cycle paths.
Places to look:
Vincent Van Gogh Museum, Red light district and a city boat tour. The city itself has peculiar look with different shapes of houses which are very much narrow and height because of their taxes earlier. They had taxes on width and not on height. It is pretty pleasant to see the whole city through boat trips.
The famous Keukenhof garden having so many colourful flowers is pretty near to Amsterdam with a half an hour journey.
Residence facilities and food:
Youth hostels, as usual are available and one can easily reserve the accommodation in internet. Very well maintained and are near to railway stations and public transport bus stops.
Different restaurants from different countries are available and for pretty good prices. A wide variety of choices to choose from and one need not worry about it as I feel.
Public transport:
The whole city is very well connected through buses, trams, underground trains with pretty good frequency. The city is pretty small and you can visit almost any visiting place by walk and you don’t even need a day ticket and take transport.
My impression:
Overall a different city with different constructions and pretty good to visit once when you are near by. For art lovers it would be worthy visit for Van Gogh museum and for nature lovers it would be worthy to visit the famous Tulip gardens also called Keukenhof gardens. I loved the tulip gardens and it is so beautiful with so many colourful flowers you would never see. You can see so many fields by the side of you while travelling to the Keukenhof gardens which are filed with so many colourful flowers.
It is not really needed to visit the city for visiting gardens; you can go to it through other cities also. Except for Van Gogh museum and bridges in the city there is nothing much special you need to crave to visit to the city.
